Students have Amazing Opportunity to Prepare for College

As part of Utah College Application Week (UCAW), Payson High School is hosting a College and Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, November 8 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The goal of UCAW is to provide every high school senior the opportunity to complete at least one college or university application during the school day, with a particular focus on students who would be the first in their families to attend college, low-income students, or students who may not have otherwise considered applying. In addition to helping seniors with college applications, we are hosting a College and Financial Aid Night for students in grades 7-12, and their parents.

College Representatives from all of the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) schools will be available to answer parents' and students' questions about college options. Those who attend the event on Wednesday will gain an understanding that College is for everyone but college doesn’t always mean a traditional degree. For many students, earning a certificate in a trade is an excellent option for a career or to prepare for additional education. Students may also be interested in taking advantage of an apprenticeship program post high school with much of their training and education being paid for. For some students joining the military is an excellent option for post-secondary training.

College is an investment. College can be expensive, and figuring out how to pay for it can seem overwhelming. Luckily, Utah’s public universities have the fourth lowest tuition in the country, and there are many resources available to help students prepare and lots of different ways to get the money needed.  At the event on Wednesday, expert help will be available to help seniors and parents complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Representatives from Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP), Daniels Fund, Sterling Scholar, Regents Scholarship, and Wells Fargo will also be available to discuss funding for college.

Waffle Love, Best Tacos in Town, and Bandera Brisket will be on campus for the event on Wednesday so families and students can make it a fun night while learning about college and financial aid.
