Spanish Fork High School student council teamed up with Make-A-Wish Utah for the 7th annual “Homeless for A Night” event to raise money to grant wishes for local children with life threatening conditions Students at Spanish Fork High School and other high schools in Nebo School District gave up the comforts of home for one night during SFHS’s 7th annual “Homeless for a Night” on Friday, March, 10, 2017 at 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 to raise money for Make-A-Wish Utah. “Homeless for A Night” is an all-night charity fundraiser aimed at raising awareness and money for Make-A-Wish. The ultimate goal is to grant the wish of our 6-year-old “wish kid” Stacy. Participants at “Homeless for a Night” pay a registration fee to take part in fun events such as a dance, basketball, video games, a movie, and more. Ultimately, this event is meant to challenge the students physically by going without sleep while raising awareness and money for a good cause in a safe, secure, friendly environment. “Homeless for a Night is special to me because it brings joy to everyone: those who come to it and those who benefit from it,” says James Dawe, SFHS student body officer in charge of service. “We have the opportunity to have fun and to do good; it is something that you will always remember,” Dawe continues. William Paxton, student body president at SFHS says, “HFAN is so special because, not only are we helping people and the community, we get to have a rocking party with awesome people at the same time.” All the money raised through registration fees and corporate sponsors will be donated to Make-A-Wish Utah. Make-A-Wish is an organization that prides itself on giving hope and joy to children and families challenged by life threatening conditions. The money raised at Homeless for a Night will help grant the wish of a 6-year-old Spanish Fork child with Cerebral Palsy. Her wish is to go to Disney World to meet Prince Charming. Last year’s event brought more than 1,000 high school students out to Spanish Fork High School. Spanish Fork High School was then able to donate more than $14,000 to last year’s featured charity.
