Springville High’s Guitar Open Mic – Answer to “Where are We Wednesday?” Challenge

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Under the direction of Dan Frewin, Springville High offers Open Mic Lunch sessions on  Monday, A-Days. A sound system is set up by the main office and the students can either bring their own guitar or use one of Mr. Frewin’s.

Mr. Frewin provides the microphones and oftentimes backs up the students who want to play. The purpose of Open Mic Lunch Session is to give all students, not just guitar students, an opportunity to perform for the student body and demonstrate their abilities as musicians and songwriters. Open Mic is intended to give students a safe, positive venue to try out their own compositions or to just play cover tunes if that is what they enjoy.

“We have so many talented kids at Springville High who are really great musicians.  These kids seldom have an audience to play for, so the Open Mic Lunch is ideal for that. So far, it has been a very positive move for our school, and has the full support of the administration and the faculty,” said Mr. Frewin. “For some students, it may be the only time they get to play/sing ‘plugged in’ to a sound system in front of people, and we encourage any and all who want to take the plunge to do so. We are hoping that we might light a spark in someone and have them gain enough self-confidence to carry their music on to the next level.”

Congratulations to Corrin Owens for answering this week’s “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge.
