New Trees for Eagles - Answer to Wednesday Challenge

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Rees Eagles at Rees Elementary had a great opportunity to learn more about caring for their school and the community by planting three new trees. On Monday, October 19, 2020, fourth- through sixth-grade students worked with TreeUtah, a non-profit organization dedicated to planting trees. They planted two Honey Locusts trees and one Bosnian Pine to beautify Rees’ campus. Students learned how to help trees grow and benefit the community. When planting the trees, students learned how to spread the roots, add nutrients to the soil, shovel dirt, water the trees, and mulch the base of each tree.

These trees are not only beautiful, but will be used by teachers at Rees to teach about the water cycle, scientific observations, ecosystems, and other curriculum-based topics. Each class will have their own “class” tree to monitor and take care of.

Thank you to TreeUtah representatives for awarding Rees this grant, which provided all materials.

Congratulations to Jen Richins for answering the “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
