Forty students from Nebo School District participated in the 540-voice choir, including students from across the state. The All-State choir performed at the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA) in October. It was led this year by esteemed choral director, Jonathan Talberg, from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach. The students have been rehearsing for about a month, but special state-wide rehearsals were held on Thursday and Friday, with the performance on Saturday evening in the Dee Events Center at Weber State University.
Braden Rymer, a choir teacher from Maple Mountain High, said, “It was amazing to see our students come together, especially after not being able to do these kinds of events for such a long time. It gave us a moment to feel and express our gratitude for each other and music, and to sing with one purpose. The students not only learned from Dr. Talberg about being better singers and performers, but also about compassion, understanding, purpose, and unity.”
