The Nebo Education Foundation gives gifts in the form of grants to various Nebo teachers across the district.

President Marla Bird said, “We feel very fortunate to be able to see the full cycle of how the Nebo Education Foundation is involved in helping the kids of Nebo School District. After we receive funds from the community, we review grant proposals from dedicated teachers who have specific classroom needs, then we are able to award a grant to that teacher who uses those resources to enrich the educational experience for our kids.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to bless the lives of students.

Mapleton Junior – Nicollette Anderson
Nicollette Anderson, an English teacher at Mapleton Junior said, “With the grant money that we received, we are planning on purchasing nonfiction novels for our eighth-grade students. Our English classrooms are places where we strive to inspire our students to have a love of reading. Sometimes the best way to learn about the world and other people is through books. In junior high, students have so many obstacles they are struggling to maneuver. From the books purchased with the grant money, students will read about real people overcoming real stumbling blocks--they will realize that anything is possible and to never give up.”

Canyon Elementary – Jodi Geis
“Thank you so much for approving our grant of items for centers as well as small groups for our classroom! We are thrilled for new and exciting center supplies! Our centers are an important part of our daily practice in kindergarten. Many items at centers need to be replaced after years of repeated use. Each of the items purchased will help build and strengthen important skills including: phonemic awareness, letter and number identification, reading, counting, problem solving and fine motor skills. Kindergarteners learn best hands and this grant helps enhance our learning! We appreciate your generosity and investment in our classroom!  Thank you, thank you!” exclaimed Jodi Geis, kindergarten teacher at Canyon Elementary.

Payson High – Linsee Peterson
Linsee Peterson, science teacher at Payson High, said, “I am beyond excited to be able to provide a hands-on experience to teach students about DNA through biotechnology. With the grant I will be able to let students explore cutting edge DNA technology that actual scientists use in the field. Students will be able to gather and analyze their own data from samples of DNA, which couldn’t be possible without this technology. I hope to use this biotechnology with my Biology & Genetics classes to help teach concepts in Genetics that are hard to conceptualize.”

Landmark High – Jane Wilkins
“I was trying to solve a problem to make my classroom more functional for a new sewing course at Landmark High School this year. I needed some specialized desks to set up sewing stations. Then I heard a presentation about Nebo Education Foundation grants and decided to apply. It was perfect timing!” exclaimed Jane Wilkins, a CTE teacher at Landmark High. “Thank you so much for your generosity and helping me to offer this STEM class! Sewing is STEM because it involves Science through the chemistry of fibers; the Technology aspect is computerized sewing machines that need programming; students practice Engineering as they transform 2D patterns into 3D products; and sewing uses geometry and Mathematics in measurements and adjustments. Sewing benefits students because it teaches them problem solving skills. It is also a practical skill that can benefit an individual by learning how to construct and repair clothing and other consumer soft goods. Sewing skills can also become a source of income. Thank you for connecting donors with classroom needs and helping me prepare my students for the future!”
