The Nebo Education Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District. Thank you to all those that so generously supported Nebo students through donations.

President Marla Bird said, “The grant proposals we receive from our teachers are amazing. It is so gratifying to see and feel our teachers’ commitment to providing their students with the best educational opportunities possible. It is even more gratifying to see what these opportunities do for our students.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to make a difference in the lives of students.

Payson High – Angela Berrio
Angie Berrio, Japanese teacher at Payson High, said, “Thank you so much for the grant. We have been using 20-year old textbooks in my Japanese class and are excited to update them. We can stop using outdated words like ‘tape and CD’ and start using more appropriate words to describe our activities! Also, using updated textbooks is a requirement for my students to get UVU Concurrent Enrollment credit.”

Wilson Elementary – Chanla Weight
“This is my second opportunity applying for a Nebo Foundation Grant, and I am beyond grateful. I recently changed grades, and I quickly realized I did not have enough grade level reading material. This grant is helping me solve this problem. Beginning chapter books are hard to find that are at an appropriate level for beginners. After a lot of searching, I have found many book sets that will work perfectly for my chapter book groups in my classroom. I know my student's will  love these book sets. The books have appropriate grade level text, and many pictures to help those students that are transitioning from picture books. I want to thank all those people that are involved in giving these grants to teachers. I would not be able to build my classroom library without them,” said Chanla Weight, second-grade teacher at Wilson Elementary.

Barnett Elementary – Natalie Veach
Natalie Veach, third-grade teacher at Barnett Elementary, said, “Thank you so much to the Nebo Foundation for awarding this grant! We are a Leader In Me school so this grant will be used to build the classroom libraries in our Accommodated Core and 1st grade classrooms with read-aloud books that will teach our students how to become leaders. These grade level specific read-aloud books will also provide opportunities for students to practice listening comprehension, build their vocabulary and to make connections with themselves and their world.  We are extremely excited to share this gift with our students! Thank you!!”

Wilson Elementary – Wendy Millett
“Thank you so much for the grant. I am very excited that Mr. Leighton and I have funds to build our classroom libraries. I plan to use this grant to get chapter books for students that are lower than grade level. I want to get books that the kids are interested in and want to read. I believe having a selection of books for my lower than grade level readers will encourage reading. Thank you so much for this grant. My students will be very excited to have new books to choose from,” said Wendy Millett, third-grade teacher at Wilson Elementary.

Goshen Elementary – Courtney Adams
Courtney Adams, kindergarten teacher at Goshen Elementary, said, “Thank you very much for your donation! The money received will be well spent on literacy center activities for my kindergarten friends! I will be purchasing different hands-on activities to practice letters and blending short CVC words. As a teacher, I feel very supported by the foundation for helping to supply my classroom with fun and engaging activities.”

Wilson Elementary – Melanie Kunz
“I am a first-grade teacher engaged in my ARTS endorsement course with BYU. I am very excited to have the opportunity to enhance my tools for the arts in my classroom. I plan to use the money from this grant to purchase handbells, battery-operated lights for desktop shadow puppet stages, and teacher hand puppets. I have learned about and seen firsthand the incredible benefits of arts integration in the elementary classroom. Thank you, Nebo Education Foundation, and my principal's matching funds!” exclaimed Melanie Kunz, first-grade teacher at Wilson Elementary.
