Nebo Celebrated National School Breakfast Week – “Dig in to School Breakfast”
To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available for school breakfast, Nebo schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week during March 6-10, 2023.
Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. However, US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data show that more and more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafeterias. The USDA School Breakfast Program currently serves 14 million students every day.
Nebo celebrated the theme: “Dig in to School Breakfast" through the following:
- Many coloring contests
- Bike Giveaway at Spring Lake Elementary - Each student got to enter each time they ate breakfast. Two students were pulled out of a bowl at the end of the week and won a bike.
- Students participated in a taste test with a new item: Apple Frudel by Pillsbury.
- Games like Corn Hole and the Bean Bag Toss into dump trucks.
- Educational activities to learn about building and making a better breakfast.
- Tray prizes – Every school gave around 100 small prizes during the week.
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. This special observance during the first week of March celebrates the national School Breakfast Program and the many ways it gives kids a great start every day.
