The Nebo Education Foundation board met in May, to discuss the many grants and needs across the district. This Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District.

One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. It will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023. We still have the noon flight available for sponsorships. The Nebo Education Foundation appreciates the generous support of so many businesses and individuals to help pull this off. Thank you to all those that continually support Nebo students.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Park View Elementary – Megan Niepraschk
“This ‘room refresh’ grant will help the fiction section of our library become a more exciting and enticing space for all the students. I will be using the funds to purchase spine labels and bookshelf signs to divide the fiction area into genres, such as fantasy and action. Instead of always asking where the scary books or the fairy tale books are, students will be able to quickly go to those newly divided areas and find something they actually want to read. Wallpaper, purchased with the grant money, will add some needed color and pizzaz to the fiction area, drawing students there more quickly. I am so excited for the students to easily find the types of books they want to read and for the library to be a more inviting space for the whole school,” stated Megan Niepraschk, librarian at Park View.

Apple Valley Elementary – Angela Craig
Angela Craig, special education teacher at Apple Valley, said, “I am so grateful for the grant money that was given to Apple Valley Elementary School to benefit students with special needs. We will be using this money to help purchase a math program and manipulatives that will help many students receive the specialized instruction they need in order to progress. We are excited to begin using this program in the fall.”

Diamond Fork Middle  – Janeen Scott
“Often times, struggling readers get frustrated that the books they are interested in are too high for them to independently read. That's where these mp3 players come in!  This mp3 players allow me to provide audible versions of their assigned books so that struggling readers can access text at their interest level.  If they follow along with the book, their comprehension increases, and their engagement in group discussions improves immensely.  Students become more confident in their reading and willing to participate in peer discussions,” stated Janeen Scott, English teacher at Diamond Fork.

Santaquin Elementary – Kristen O’Dea
Kristen O’Dea, kindergarten teacher at Santaquin, said, “I truly appreciate the grant money for the cubbies. I will be using the cubbies to store stem activities that the kids can work on when they are done with work. The stem activities will keep their minds engaged throughout the day!”

Salem Hills High – Justin Bills
“I am always in awe of the generosity of our community partners and their support of Performing Arts in our schools. SHHS Choirs has been the beneficiary of many kind and charitable organizations, none more so than the Nebo Education Foundation. We are indebted to their commitment to the very best for students and for their drive to support teachers like me whenever they are able. Saying "thank you" isn't nearly enough, but please accept it as a token of our gratitude. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!” exclaimed Justin Bills, music teacher at Salem Hills High.

Santaquin Elementary – Ien Richins
“Thank you so much Nebo Grant Foundation for this grant. As a school we are always looking for ways to integrate technology into the classroom as much as possible,” said Ien Richins, principal at Santaquin. “Sphero robots will be a great addition to our school allowing us to integrate coding lessons into programming robots to perform different tasks. Teachers are so excited to have this wonderful technology opportunity here at Santaquin Elementary School. With this grant we will be able to integrate robots into lessons for years to come. Thank you so much Nebo Grant Foundation.”

Larsen Elementary – Janna Voss & Rebecca Marshall
Janna Voss and Rebecca Marshall, stated, “We want to express our gratitude to the Nebo Education Foundations for the grant they gave us for the students on our speech caseload. We work with preschool through fifth-grade students who will greatly benefit from this grant. Much of the money we receive will be used for our students on the Autism spectrum who struggle with understanding social cues and the skills necessary to navigate social situations with others. We will also use the money to replace outdated materials in our speech room that all of our articulation and language students will be able to use. We're so thankful for this grant. It means so much to us to know that the Nebo Education Foundation cares about Nebo's students as much as we do.  Thank you for helping us provide a better education to all our speech students!!

Springville Canyon Middle – Sherry Plaisted
“This grant will be used for adding titles to our library for teachers to use with their literature circles. We are always looking to increase our collection to best meet student needs and student interest - this grant will help us make a significant dent in adding to our library with both fiction and nonfiction titles on multiple reading levels. Thank you for helping us increase our leveled library collection - it is something that students will use every single day here at Spring Canyon to improve their reading skills,” said Alison Hansen, principal of Spring Canyon Middle.
