The Nebo Youth Board, a group of students made up of high school students from each school within the district, met with the Nebo School Board of Education; Superintendent Rick Nielsen; and Secondary Director, Dr. RaShel Shepherd this past Wednesday.  Students were given time to ask any questions they wanted to the School Board of Education.

Students were also asked multiple questions throughout the hour such as the following:

1. What do you like about your school?
Many of the student leaders spoke of traditions, unification of students, student support, and the administration really cares and helps us do well.

2. What stands out about your teachers?
Students mentioned that their teachers stay after school if we need help, and they really care.

3. What have you learned that you can take with you after you graduate?
Students mentioned some of the following:
    We do not know everything.
It is okay to ask for help.
We don’t need to be afraid of people that are adults.
    People are willing to help.
    Learn as you go.
    Communication skills are important.
    Work hard.
We can’t be the best at everything.
We believe that: Here, we learn for life.
Be positive and learn how to treat other people.
    Believe in yourself.

4. Are there things you would change about your school?
Students mentioned some of the following:
    We love our school.
It would be nice to get to know all the kids.
    Keep parents at bay.
    No school on Fridays.
Do better at balancing work and a school day.
We would like flex time or study hall in high school just like at junior high.

Students had a hard time ending the meeting because they were able to collaborate with each other and get ideas and insights to take back to their own student councils and administrations.
