The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities served by Nebo School District. Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.
These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board. One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. The “Green Fever” golf tournament will be on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The Nebo Foundation also accepts donations from individuals and businesses to support these grants and other projects.

Maple Ridge Elementary – Lindsey Smith
Lindsey Smith, Instructional Coach at Maple Ridge Elementary, said, “Maple Ridge is thrilled to receive a grant from the Nebo Foundation to buy nonfiction books for our Small Group Instruction library! It is vital that students be taught to read and comprehend nonfiction text, and this grant will help us add books to our library that are appealing, engaging, and informative for our students. We are excited to see a love of nonfiction increase in our students, which will serve them throughout their lives.”
Springville Junior – Julie Pullman
“The ninth-grade team is so grateful for these funds! We are creating literature circles centered around novels in verse to expose students to a unique form of fiction. It helps them develop confidence with poetic verse and deepen their experiences with metaphor and imagery, all while being very character centered. Having enough copies to do literature circles allows our students to experience reading in small groups with lots of peer interaction and to choose from a variety of books the ones that best match their interests. We are grateful for the support in providing these literacy opportunities to our students!” exclaimed Julie Pullman, English teacher at Springville Junior.
Maple Ridge Elementary – DeAnn Sanders
DeAnn Sanders, fourth-grade teacher at Maple Ridge Elementary, said, “I am elated to receive this grant to purchase nonfiction books for the Maple Ridge Level library. Students in upper grades are expected to read 50 percent fiction and 50 percent informational books. Having a wide range of informational books to choose from will allow teachers to expose their students to books that are engaging and fun. Introducing students to this genre will help our students comprehend nonfiction better and be able to understand the text structure as it is quite different then a fictional book. This grant will benefit many students at our school and it is all because of the generosity of the Nebo Education Grant. Thank you!”
Springville Junior – Melanie Jensen
“Thank you so much for the generous grant! We, as a ninth-grade team, are thrilled to be able to offer our students the classic Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet in a new format: the graphic novel. Because plays are meant to be seen and not simply read, this will help students better visualize the story and characters of the play. Additionally, students will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the text when used in tandem with the original script that the script alone cannot provide. As graphic novels grow in popularity, we are excited to be able to use this familiar medium to access a playwright that might be less familiar to them at this point in their education. Thank you again!” exclaimed Melanie Jensen, English teacher at Spring Junior.
