Descriptions of District-Wide Tests

AAPPL (Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages)

  • Grades 3-9
  • Test given to students in the Dual Language Immersion program to check their proficiency of the target language. Total testing time: 2.5 hours 

Acadience Reading

  • Grades K-5 
  • Benchmark literacy test
  • Administered 3 times per year: fall, winter, spring
  • Total testing time (including fall, winter, spring) 15-30 minutes 

Acadience Math

  • Grades K-3
  • Benchmark numeracy tests 
  • Administered 3 times per year: fall, winter, spring
  • Total testing time (including fall, winter, and spring) 20-60 minutes

ACT

  • Grade 11
  • A timed assessment that measures postsecondary readiness. 
  • The state-administered ACT includes English, reading, mathematics, and science subtests. 
  • English: Total testing time 45 minutes 
  • Reading: Total testing time 35 minutes 
  • Mathematics: Total testing time 60 minutes 
  • Science: Total testing time 35 minutes 

Civics Exam

  • A locally administered civics exam with questions from the U. S. immigration and naturalization (citizenship) test. 
  • Students need to correctly answer 35 out of 50 questions (alternate option available for students with disabilities). 
  • Testing times vary based on LEA question selection, 60 minutes or less 
  • REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION

CTE Skill Certificate Assessments 

  • Competency-based tests given to students when they complete a course in Career and Technical Education. 
  • Designed to be completed in one sitting, in one class period. 
  • Total testing times are determined by content 50-90 minutes REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION 

DLM (Dynamic Learning Map)

  • Grades 3-11
  • Untimed tests given at the end of the school year to students with significant cognitive disabilities to measure proficiency on the Alternate Achievement Standards (Essential Elements/Extended Core Science Standards) and school accountability 
  • DLM - English Language Arts (ELA) (grades 3-11) Total testing time to complete multiple testlets 60 minutes 
  • DLM - Mathematics (grades 3-11) Total testing time to complete multiple testlets 60 minutes 
  • DLM – Science (grades 4-11) Total testing time to complete multiple testlets 60 minutes 

Financial Literacy Assessment Test 

  • Grades 10-12
  • given to students when they complete the General Financial Literacy course. 
  • Designed to be administered in one class period, in one sitting Total testing time 50-90 minutes 

I-Ready

  • Grades 1-2
  • Literacy test

KEEP

  • Kindergarten assessment for incoming kindergarten students in order to identify their incoming knowledge and skills
  • Administered during the first week of school

NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress)

  • Grades 4 and 8
  • The largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in the United States know and can do in various subjects. 
  • It is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), within the U.S. Department of Education. 
  • Selected schools represent schools across the nation, and their participation provides an accurate picture of student performance.

PAST

  • Grades K-5
  • Literacy test to help teachers identify where specific students need help on specific reading skills
  • Administered throughout the year as needed

RISE

  • Grades 3-8
  • Untimed tests given at the end of a course to measure students’ proficiency on Utah Core Standards and school accountability 
  • English Language Arts (ELA) (grades 3-8) Testing time approximately 90-135 minutes 
  • Writing (grades 5-8) Testing time approximately 60-90 minutes 
  • Mathematics (grades 3-8) Testing time approximately 90-135 minutes 
  • Science (grades 4-8) Testing time approximately 90-135 minutes

Utah Aspire Plus

  • Grades 9-10
  • Timed tests given at the end of the school year for all 9th and 10th graders, that include a combination of test questions from ACT Aspire and Utah’s item bank. 
  • English Testing time 45 minutes 
  • Reading Testing time 75 minutes
    Mathematics Testing time 75 minutes 
  • Science Testing time 60 minutes

WIDA

  • Administered to multi-language learners in the ESL (English as a Second Language) program
  • Measures the students’ proficiency in English
